Responsive Jewellery: your sci-fi dream job

By Barnaby Tidman published on Thursday, 21 January

Responsive jewellery is an area where current fashion reality and the outrageous dreams of science fiction meet. Jenny Tillotson, famous for her scent-technology clothing, is searching for a responsive jewellery designer to work on an exciting and innovative project which could provide you with one of the most fascinating roles in the fashion world.

Heading up the the project, is an artist and designer with a long history of innovation in fashion. Her computerised scent-output systems aim to bring emotional wellbeing to a wearer of the clothing, and other projects include the 'living dress', a sensitive second skin that comes straight from the pages of a JG Ballard story. Alongside the 'external nervous system' of the living dress, another highlight of Tillotson's is her seductive clothing embedded with pheromones and electronic nose-sensors.

This opportunity is for a wellbeing project marketed at a major London retailer; the project is therefore to be of a holistic and healing type.

In another exciting twist, the electronic jewellery that will be created in the project will house ground-breaking technology developed in the Girton Labs, Cambridge- the lab responsible for various pieces of technology that operate in many of our lives, including the accelerometer (which sits inside laptops and iPhones, responding to the tilting of the phone in games and when viewing content- eg portrait/landscape mode).
