Land Without A Map
jotta curate the Recent Graduate exhibition at the Affordable Art Fair, offering a platform for 18 emerging artists whose practices reconsider natural and spatial elements, while questioning conventional visual assumptions.
The artists selected for Land Without A Map test new perceptions of the archetypal landscape. Through documentation and appropriation of methodologies of spatial exploration, the works challenge the viewer’s perception of familiar environments. The works address how a site can be represented, or provide possibilities for a new vantage point, while others ask the viewer to reassess their own position within a defined location. By fabricating contemporary interpretations of mythological, pastoral and urban spaces, the chosen works fundamentally examine and provide new debate on the framework of the proverbial environment.
