From March 24 to March 29, Jotta hosted Jotta Live in honour of our third birthday and the launch of our debut publication. At a pop-up space across from our studio on Newburgh Street, several artists and art-lovers joined us to participate in workshops, all drawing from the content within the Jotta publication.
Jotta Live kicked off with a Lino-flip book workshop, taught by Linocutboy (aka Nick Morley). Participants carved and printed their own images and made them into flick-books. Read more about Linocutboy's workshop
During her workshop, Editions Space artist Joanna Mires taught participants how to use casts to create ceramic ornamental pieces. Read about Mires' work
Xiao Fei taught workshoppers how to create their own mini doodle machines using bamboo, wood, rubber bands and old toy motor. Check out one of Fei's kinetic drawing machines
Avant Gardening, hosts of social and sustainable workshops at Barbican, Serpentine and London Festival of Architecture, scoured the Newburgh area for local stories from residents about the neighbourhood, how it used to be, how it is and how they envisioned it should be in the future - a process culminating in an A3 poster zine. Hormazd Narielwalla lead a workshop about pattern construction where he taught participants how to create artwork using Savile Row tailoring patterns. See Narielwalla's work
Finally, Amy Pliszka led a talk about her beautifully designed beehives, which function as sustainable homes geared towards attracting bees through visually enticing features. Read more about Pliszka's beehives
