jotta are pleased to announce the winner of the Chelsea Student Award 2011, jotta Award.  This years prize goes to Chelsea School of Art and Design (BA Hons) graduate, Sophie Percival. 

Percival's work begins with a preoccupation with a certain environment - from the virtual environment of a computer game, to visiting a drained swimming pool, to the awkward environment created in the hairdresser, to the bizarre setup of a bathroom showroom.

Working across a variety of mediums, Percival's work addresses this chosen space from any angle in order to investigate and explore what it's supposed significance. "My work tries to address the contradictions within place, and in doing expose or highlight these interesting contradictions to the viewer."

In collaboration with jottaContemporary Sophie Percival will liaise with jotta curators to realise a new web based site-specific work.

The final piece will be exclusively exhibited on the jotta.com homepage in December 2011. In addition, the artist and the work will be the subject of an article in the jotta Published, and occupy the feature position in the jottaContemporary Exhibition Programme.
