London Pleasure Gardens: Opening Extravaganza
30.06.2012

London Pleasure Gardens team have pulled together a roster of awe-inducing performances to light-up the free Paradise Gardens Festival opening on 30th June, 2012. there will be lights, there will be theatre and games and fire and yes, there will be music.

Winners of the Mayor of London, LDA and Newham Council’s Meanwhile London Competition, with their pitch to recreate the 21st Century version of London’s historic Pleasure Gardens back to The Royal Victoria Docks, the team is comprised of the masterminds behind Glastonbury’s Shangri-La, Mutate Britain, and Cordy House.

Paradise Gardens will run across LPG’s opening weekend and showcase music, theatre, art, food and cultural adventures in the stunning 35,000 capacity wonderland. With an open invite for people of all ages, creeds and mindsets, high-culture lovers, lowculture lovers, the culturally indifferent and pensioners, Paradise Gardens is set to be a triumph.

Featuring:
SILO D, a spectacular fire and pyrotechnics show based around a  listed building and
arranged by pioneering pyrotechnics/design collective THE WORLD FAMOUS. The event will
commemorate and relive the colossal Silvertown munitions factory explosion and will be placed against the backdrop of Silo D itself, a listed historic building.

THE DOME, a spectacular multi-arts venue with LED-sequenced skin designed by Future Tents, will feature club sets from live dubstep life-affirmers JAZZSTEPPA and mashed up DJ/Vaudeville combo DUTTY MOONSHINE.

Cultural delights include the chance to enjoy unbridled glory in a variety of madcap events at THE SILLYMPIC GAMES, surrealist street theatre madness from ALICE AND ALICE, a cross-festival interactive performance from BiDiNG TiME, site specific street dance extravaganza TAXI!, apocalyptic urban performance ATTACK!, and haunting physical theatre masterpiece THE SPURTING MAN (by AVANTI DISPLAY).

Food is on lock too, with a RIBA-designed Oyster Grotto serving up its namesake edibles plus eats supplied by connoisseurs Mad for Food and London’s Borough Market founding traders Farmer Sharp and Hot Cross Baker. Drinks will come from the Soulshakers bars, and there will be plenty of spots to pick up a drink throughout the London Pleasure Gardens site.
