This March jotta curates DEVOUR, the Emerging Artists Exhibition at the Affordable Art Fair 2011; showcasing twenty recent graduates whose artistic practices playfully arouse the animalistic tendencies of the viewer within the context of an art fair.
Art seduces the appetite similarly to the way food entices hunger; the ravenous eye consumes works from a predatory position. The voyeur, in celebrating the richness and evocative rhythms of the natural world, possesses an innate desire to control and manipulate: to persist in the struggle for survival. In abstracting and bisecting organic and unusual macrocosms, the sensual qualities of the material world are provoked: natural forms and environments conceal hidden mysteries. The viewer, when presented a window onto the world, searches to expose a latent history. They, as the lone witness, experience the fundamentals of fear and desire. Here nature and man undertake a cyclical dance that remains at once sublime yet solitary.
