Singular and plural, Hal Silver is an exploratory collaborative process between artists who have recently graduated from the Royal College Of Art's Photography MA. The Morouge Room offers a series of experimental wall-to wall curatorial suggestions in areas of the creative Clubs interior. This space will become a platform for a number of stages upon which various practices within the group will collide both with each other and with the fabric that makes up the club.
The title of the exhibition alludes to the fictional colour, 'morouge'; a colour that is only experienced by Hal Silver and invented specifically by the group in response to the Clubs interior. Through this playful interplay with fictional guise, the mystery of Hal Silver's function is explored further, forming intrigue as to how the individual and the group maintain their distinctive practices, as well as how they blur and overlap within the frame work of Hal Silver. Hal Silver proposes another dimension to the clubs interior, where the exhibited challenges the function of a gallery space, whilst providing the viewer with an area in which to investigate the medium of photography through differing artistic interpretations.
Hal Silvers singular practices are hung in duality throughout the space, suggesting a metamorphosis and merging to transpire, promoting a discourse between the artists practices. Video works interrupt the club’s cinema programme offering a space within the exhibition to respond to the works, shifting the fixity of display towards something more fluid and process-led.
The Morouge Room is exhibited at the creative members club, The Hospital Club, from the 13th of September to the 19th of December 2010, by appointment only, please contact email@example.com to arrange.
