Diesel School of Island Life : Experimental Typography Workshop
Commissioned to do a workshop for the Diesel School of Island Life series, jotta put together a beach themed experimental typography workshop, to show people how to to use every day beach objects to create their very own SOS message.

There were three activities that participants could take part in, each showing a different way to experiment with typography in a beachy way to create a message.

Message in a Bottle
jotta designed 3 beach themed alphabets and some worksheets which prompted participants to use the alphabets creatively to write their message in a bottle. They could then roll up their message, and take it home in a vintage bottle.

Sand SOS
Interactive large scale typography is a lot of fun. A camera was set to take a photo every 5 seconds above a pile of sand. People were then encouraged to use the sand to form SOS. The video below shows the process and outcome beautifully:

Beach Type
A beach combing session at Winchelsea in Kent provided a sack full of beachy wonders, including shells, seaweed, stones, sponges, even crabs! Participants picked a letter of the alphabet and used the found objects to create their letterform. The alphabet eventually came to life on a wall of the gallery and was also digitised and animated into the film below.
